Stopping the Register & ID Cards

The only way that you can avoid the future of living in an authoritarian state, which keeps a record of your daily activities, is to make act now and let the government know.

  1. Get together with others in your area to form a local group
We need a presence nationally, as the NIR and ID cards are a fundamentally national issue. Get together with your friends and start your own local group. We will can help, give information and support in any way that we can. Alternatively find your nearest NO2ID local group and go along to their next event.
  2. Students Against ID – Start a union society
We have a Student Society Starter Pack available to make this even easier. If you are at university and you care about the issues surrounding the National Identity Register and ID cards start a society, you may be surprised about how many of your peers will agree with you.

  3. Make a noise
Print out our flyers, design your own, hand them out in town, call up local radio stations, text into TV programs and email websites that ask for your opinion on ID cards.
  4. Write to your MP
Write to your MP and MEP expressing your disquiet and ask for their personal opinion. WriteToThem is a free and confidential way to get an answer. Let us know what they say. They will almost always reply to you. Remember – you are the “youth” vote that they are always trying to appeal to.
  5. Volunteer for Youth Against ID
Youth Against ID is an entirely run by volunteers. We are all pupils, students or recent postgraduates and so we need others like us to contribute. If you have any specially talent that you think would be useful or if you just have time to help us please email us
  6. Tell your friends about ID Cards and the National Register
Most people are not aware of the government's ID database project, and few understand the dangers. This is the real problem we face. The facts are on our side, it’s just apathy and ignorance that we have to combat. Tell them about what it will mean to their daily lives.
  7. Renew your passport now
The UK Identity & Passport Service (UKIPS) has not yet changed passport renewal procedures. If you need to renew your passport after 2008 they will refuse to renew your passport unless you attend an official interview and agree to be fingerprinted and give a wide range of personal information for the National Identity Register. By renewing your passport now you don’t stop yourself ever being entered onto the database but you do buy yourself more time.
